UK weather forecast: 'HUGE DROP IN TEMPERATURE' – Met Office warns FREEZING COLD tonight

The UK weather forecast looks chilly for the next day or so before temperatures rise again later in the month.

The Met Office said, particularly in the north of the country, things had become particularly chilly.

Meteorologist Steven Keates said: “There has been a massive drop in the temperature.

“This is typical of autumn where we can experience a big change in fortunes from one day to the next.

“It has almost gone from summer to winter in the space of 24 hours.”

Ground frost could form in rural areas tonight but Mr Keates said things could brighten up after the weekend.

He said: “If we can get this day out the way, there will be a complete contrast and light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Met Office said Monday to Wednesday would be “dry and fine” for England and Wales, becoming “very warm” by midweek.

A long-range Met Office forecast was equally cheery.

The Met Office said: “On Thursday sunshine and warm southerly winds will continue across England and Wales though these may be accompanied by heavy showers in the south.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland will be rather windy and rain may move in from the west later.

“The northwest of the UK will probably stay mostly wet and windy into the weekend, with gales likely on some coasts and hills.

“Meanwhile, southern and eastern areas are likely to stay dry and warm with lighter winds and some sunshine, although there may be morning mist and fog patches.

“The following week could well be similar, with northern and western parts having wet and windy spells interspersed with occasional drier periods.

“Meanwhile, drier and brighter weather is likely to dominate in the southeast, though probably with cooler temperatures.”
