Orioles have received offers from seven teams for Manny Machado so far, per report

If you were hoping that shortstop Manny Machado would stick around in Baltimore for next season, I have someone unsettling news for you: the odds are not in your favor. The Orioles have already received seven offers for the young star, Eduardo Encina of the The Baltimore Sun, reports. Seven. Teams. That’s basically a division and a half.

The teams involved in this bidding war include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and potentially most interesting, the Philadelphia Phillies. The Dodgers are reportedly leading the pack on piquing Dan Duquette’s interests, with the Diamondbacks not far behind.

Alright, time to rip it off like the money hemorrhaging Band Aid it is: if Baltimore doesn’t deal Machado now, they’re going to regret it. The 26-year old is going to hit free agency harder than any fastball up and away this winter, and the temptations to sign with a marquee team are present and accounted for. Baltimore might as well cash out on him now before someone else does. With that out of the way, let’s look at what the Birds could get in return for the slugger.

The Dodgers don’t need a shortstop or a third baseman, unless they’re planning on a tragic “accident” to befall Corey Seager in the next few weeks. Encina reports that the Dodger’s offer did not include top prospect outfielder Alex Verdugo, nor right-hander Yadier Álvarez, who is currently on rehab assignment with the Arizona League Dodgers. Even without the number two and five top prospects, respectively, the Dodgers’ farm system is still rich in talent, especially young arms that the Orioles rotation is in tough need of.

While nothing has been etched in stone yet, sources close to the news say a deal could be made before the weekend is even done. So light a candle by your Machado jerseys folks, and trust the process. It only stings a little.
