What happens when you get 11 moms and two grandmothers together with the new Milford High School football coaching staff? A fun filled MHS Moms Football Camp, where they enjoyed learning the fundamentals of football.

The fun began in the coaches’ meeting room where the moms got to know the new Milford High School football coaching staff that’s led by head coach Garfrey Smith. He introduced his entire staff, which includes Robert Karagosian, Dewayne Jackson, John Stolarski, Michael Shada, Richard Traynor, Scott Hiipakka and Chip Mobley.

The moms got a look at the new playbook by learning about the different positions their sons will be playing this fall on offense, defense and special teams.

“We are here to build a successful program and it’s a process,” said Smith. “Success is built off the field. These ladies gave up their Saturday to come learn about football and to get to know the coaches and our system better.”

The women then took to the football field to go through some drills. Elizabeth Holmes, wearing a “Beat Lakeland” t-shirt, seemed to be ready for the 2018 season. Her son Caleb will be a sophomore this year.

“Building a successful program, the parents, administration, community players and coaches have to work together and that’s what we are doing in Milford now,” said Smith. “It was a great time and we look forward to hosting another MHS moms football camp next year.”

The Mavericks will open the season on the road at Waterford Mott on Thursday, August 23.
